NFL owners expect to vote on the Bills’ proposal at the league’s annual spring meeting that begins March 27 in Palm Beach, Fla. The State Senate and State Assembly have until March 31 to approve the budget. Kathy Hochul has yet to add any Bills stadium funding to her proposed, state-record $216.3 billion budget. Populous then will create the conceptual designs that show the stadium’s exterior, seating bowl configuration and fan amenities. Populous still needs to meet with Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula and various other departments such as football operations, ticketing, broadcasting and concourse inhabitants to discuss their vision and broad objectives. Stadium renderings are reasonable to expect in about four to six months. The project has been estimated to cost $1.4 billion. Hiring an architect indicates the Bills are pushing forward despite a stadium deal not having been announced with New York State and Erie County. NFL sources confirm the Bills have selected powerhouse firm Populous as the architect for their new open-air stadium across Abbott Road from Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Buffalo Bills fans are a giant step closer to seeing legitimate stadium drawings.
